Several municipalities in Hudson County are holding events on National Night Out Against Crime. A program of the nonprofit National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is designed to raise awareness of crime prevention and police activities, and has been held annually on the first Tuesday in August since 1984.

The program has four main objectives — to heighten crime prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
